Today I embark on my next road trip and I couldn’t be more excited because it’ll be with a group of good friends in this amazing blogging community we have in South Africa.
The destination – Limpopo’s “Ribola Art Route” with Open Africa!
To make this an extra fun adventure, I’ve made sure to pack these 5 essential items into my bag, which I highly recommend you think of packing when heading out on your road trip with friends this summer.
5 ROAD TRIP TIPS
1. PACK A PHYSICAL MAP OF THE AREA YOU’RE HEADED TO.
There’s not always signal when on the road and Google Maps tends to bomb out when that happens. Make sure you always know where you are by taking a physical map on your road trip because being lost and having to ask for directions is never cool (apparently).
2. MAKE SURE YOU’RE SORTED WITH TUNES AND PACK AN AUX CABLE.
Driving long distances is never fun when you have to sit there in silence and even if you are a fan of South African Radio Stations, they are not always available to listen to. Well, except Radio 2000… That station is available inside caves I’m sure.
TOP TIP FOR MUSIC: Google Music will eat data, but make sure you budget an extra couple hundred rand between you and your mates for 3GB of data which is more than enough for a week of road trip tunes.
The huge data bill CAN be avoided though by using the “Download for Offline Listening” feature where you can download a heap of tunes onto your phone while you’re on a WiFi connection.
3. TAKE A GOPRO TO CAPTURE ALL YOUR MEMORIES ALONG THE WAY.
This new GoPro Hero 5 Black I have has already changed my life in so many ways! The ease of the voice recognition feature has made sure I can get the BEST selfies ever!
“GoPro, TAKE A PHOTO!!”
Make sure you pack sticky mounts so you can mount the GoPro to the front of your vehicle for fun video time-lapses of the road trip, or use the suction cup mount inside your vehicle to film your favorite Car Karaoke shenanigans.
4. WALKY TALKIE BANTER IS ALWAYS THE BEST WHEN DRIVING IN CONVOY.
I’ve travelled in convoy a few times now and each time has been with a walkie talkie system in them. These are not only GREAT for keeping in touch when overtaking cars safely and letting the car behind know there are police trapping on the road, but they are also super cool for Road Trip Banter! My favorite is to let the other vehicle(s) know how much better my music is than theirs! Music FOMO is a real thing!
5. A SOFT BAG IS ESSENTIAL FOR PACKING A CAR WITH EASE.
To make sure that your vehicle is always packed right, with enough space to see out the back window instead of it being piled up with hard bags, always travel with a soft bag.
Cape Union Mart sell this awesome K-WAY Evo Gear Bag, which comes in a variety of sizes and colors!
