It’s crazy to think that Glen Carlou has been making wines pretty much as long as I’ve been alive, but it’s true and 2017 is their 30th anniversary!
The farm itself was established back in 1985 and of course wine can’t just be made in the space of a year, but just 2 years after planting their first seeds on vineyards that look north towards Paarl, Glen Carlou released it’s first wines to the world.
30 years later, they seem to have perfected a Chardonnay so smooth, it’s gained attention from not just the local pallets, but international too.
This award winning wine being made year after year just 45km from Cape Town has now expanded to more than just the wine with the restaurant at Glen Carlou as well as their newly opened gallery that was converted from a museum to an art curators dream.
THE RESTAURANT, VIEWS & ART AT GLEN CARLOU
The restaurant offers guests views for DAYS of Paarl Rock and the historical Taal Monument, and on a clear day if you look hard enough, you can see all the way to Table Mountain.
These views are complimented by the food coming out of the kitchen daily, making Glen Carlou the perfect place to enjoy good wine, amazing art and of course award winning meals.
To celebrate their 30th year of producing fine wines, they invited a bunch of like minded travel writers out to the farm to enjoy a day in their “office” where we got to learn a little about Glen Carlou as well as drink their incredible wines and admire their current collection of art in the gallery.
I can honestly say that their food blew me away, as did the art collection curated by Alex Hamilton, who has some of his own work in the current collection.
Soon the theme will change to “Cruel Cruel Summer”, which is quite fitting considering the the worst drought the Western Cape has seen in decades.
