Reunion Island here I come – #GoToReunion

Nothing can quite explain the excitement that came over me when I got the call from Destinate a few weeks ago asking if Carlinn and I would be keen to go on a 7 day adventure on Reunion Island and with all the planning that’s been done for this trip already, I cannot wait!

As of this Sunday, Carlinn & I will be embarking on a new international adventure, but this time we’re going with a few other influencers and bloggers that we have already met, so in other words, we are going on a rad mission to Reunion Island with some of our awesome online buddies!

The people joining us on this trip will be blogger and all round awesome girl, Natalie Roos from Tails of a Mermaid, hilarious Durban instagrammer Andy Carrie, the well travelled and really awesome blogger Daréll Lourens from The Good Holiday, Tony Weaver from GQ Magazine, and of course our favorite American Instagrammer living in Johannesburg, Heather Mason AKA @2Summers.

One thing I forgot to mention about our upcoming Reunion Island trip is that it falls over my Birthday, yaaaaaaay and what we have planned for this trip, specifically on the 14th of October, but here is just a taste of what we will be getting up to!

11th of October: We will be taking a 4 hour direct flight through to Reunion Island on Air Austral and BONUS, South Africans do not require a visa to visit the island, so no long queues in any embassies for us!

12th of October: Since it’s our first full day on the island, we will be treated to some chill time on the beach in Saint-Gilles, which is a village located on the West Coast of the Reunion Island. Later that day, we will go shopping for local foods and spices at the colourful Saint Paul Market.

13th of October: This day is Volcano day and I am super excited because I’ve always wanted to see an active volcano and Piton de la Fournaise is regarded as one of the most active, yet safest volcanos on the island. After that, we will be putting our brand new international drivers licenses to good use as we drive ourselves down the South Coast, or known as the “Wild South”, to see nature at work where the Lava flows into the ocean to harden

14th of October: Happy Birthday to me, happy birthday to me… You know the rest haha, and as I mentioned, I am super excited for what’s been planned because it involves being airborne! We will kick things off by paragliding from 800m in the air, down to the stunning Kelonia Beach and from there we will visit a turtle concervancy and after that, we go shopping in the Le Port local market for our dinner that night, which is a home cooked Creole Meal.

15th of October: After all the food and relaxing from the previous few days, we kick off the real adventure because for the next 3 days we will be going on some epic hikes around Reunion Island, which is renowned for the fact that it has over 1,000km of epic hiking trails! First thing that morning we will be driving through to cirque of Salazie, where we will hike through to the remote Cirque of Mafate and spend the night in a gite, which is a hut found in the mountains!

16th of October: We will continue hiking and exploring Mafate where the team have an epic picnic lunch planned next to a river and after we will hike through to a new gite for the night!

17th of October: This will be our last full day on Reunion Island before heading back home, but the adventure will not be done yet because we’ve got another epic hike planned from Mafate through to Cirque of Cilaos. After exploring that Cirque, we will be jumping on a bus which will be taking us back to the capital of Saint-Denis where we will spend our last night on the island.

18th of October: I just know that this day is going to come a lot faster than any of us want it to, but what we can be excited about is that it’s another short 4 hour flight back to Johannesburg on Air Austral, where I plan on sorting out all the amazing content I know we will be capturing on our epic new gear we have for this trip!!

Stay tuned for my “What to pack for a 7 Day Reunion Island Adventure” blog post that I’ll share before we leave on Sunday!

Hi Mike, your trip sounds fantastic! Did you organise it all yourselves or did you go through a holiday company?

Thanks so much! It was a blogger trip with the Reunion Island Tourism Board to promote that special island.
